A Super Bowl Rematch Anchors a Week of Ceremonies, Shock Trades, and Sports Chaos

SPORTS

It is officially Super Bowl weekend in Santa Clara, and the entire country is buzzing ahead of Sunday’s kickoff. Super Bowl LX is a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, remembered most for one of the most iconic moments in NFL history. With twenty seconds left, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw an interception at the goal line, sealing a Patriots victory that still sparks debate today. Beyond football, this week also featured the opening ceremony of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics and a chaotic NBA trade deadline. Headline moves included James Harden landing in Cleveland and the Dallas Mavericks sending Anthony Davis to Washington, a surprising move just one year after acquiring him from Los Angeles following the Luka Doncic trade. League balance shifted overnight across conferences nationwide.

MUSIC

Grammy season returned this week, and the spotlight shined brightly on Latin and alternative music. Bad Bunny captured album of the year for “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS”, marking the first time a primarily Spanish language album earned the honor. The win signaled a broader shift in mainstream recognition and global listening habits. Turnstile also had a breakout night, winning Best Rock Album for “Never Enough” and adding Best Metal Performance for “Birds”, earning their first Grammys. Pharrell Williams received the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award while also producing Clipse’s “Let God Sort Em Out”. The fifty-two-year-old artist was honored for decades of influence on Black music, creativity, and culture. Still, the moment carried tension as Chad Hugo, his longtime collaborator, recently filed a lawsuit alleging withheld royalties from their work as The Neptunes and N.E.R.D. Industry conversations around credit, ownership, and legacy grew louder overnight online everywhere.

TV AND FILM

The screen is heating up this month with a few major titles making noise. Apple TV is reviving the psychological thriller Cape Fear as a new series, starring Amy Adams and Javier Bardem, promising intense storytelling when it premieres this summer. On the big screen, Ready or Not 2 sent chills with its recent trailer featuring Samara Weaving returning to a blend of horror and dark comedy. Meanwhile, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are generating buzz in The Drama, a relationship-driven film debuting this spring that mixes star power with emotional twists. A24’s Undertone is firmly on the must-watch list for 2026. Set for theatrical release on March 13, the horror thriller stars Nina Kiri as a paranormal podcast host who becomes haunted by eerie recordings. Directed by Ian Tuason in his feature debut, the movie leverages immersive sound design to amplify terror as the protagonist’s reality unravels. With a second official trailer now out and strong early reactions, Undertone is shaping up to be one of the year’s standout genre films ahead of its March debut.

CRYPTO MARKETS

Since peaking in October 2025, the cryptocurrency market has entered a pronounced downturn, erasing a significant portion of the gains seen over the previous year. Bitcoin (BTC), which traded above $124,000–$126,000 in early October, has fallen sharply and was recently around $64,000–$67,000, reflecting an approximate 40–50% decline from that high point. Broader market metrics show that overall crypto valuations have dropped by more than $1–2 trillion, wiping out nearly half of the total market capitalization seen at the 2025 peak. XRP has experienced similar weakness. After peaking near $3.66, the Ripple-linked token has fallen more than 50%, with recent sessions seeing steep one-day drops. Solana (SOL) has been hit even harder, losing over 60% from its $250+ highs as risk appetite waned. These moves coincide with widespread deleveraging, large liquidations, and a shift in investor sentiment away from speculative digital assets toward safer markets.
